SAFE

SAFE stands for Shelter, Advocacy, Freedom and Empowerment. We offer help for victims and their families experiencing Domestic Violence, Family Violence and Human Trafficking.

Victims and their children have 24/7 access to residential and non-residential services to ensure families receive the necessary support and assistance to stay safe. Supportive services available to victims and their children include emergency shelter, crisis hotline, safety planning, transportation assistance, community resources and referrals, financial assistance and planning, relocation services, assistance when seeking housing and/or employment, accompaniment, and advocacy. SAFE empowers survivors of domestic violence to regain control of their lives and break the cycle of abuse whole promoting education and awareness in the community to prevent future instances of violence. 

About This Program

The SAFE program offers a wide range of victim services across Kent and Sussex County to assist survivors of domestic violence, family violence, and human trafficking. SAFE has a team of dedicated professionals including advocates and coordinators who specialize in various areas of victim services and are committed to providing quality support and assistance to survivors and their families. We Provide Support

Our Facilities are staffed around the clock to ensure there is always help available when fleeing from abuse. At SAFE we prioritize safety and confidentiality. 

Transportation
Assistance to and from appointments such as doctors visits and court hearings for individuals affected by domestic violence.
Resources/Referrals
Our case workers can help with in person translation as well as translating written documentation to provide full understanding to each individual.
Support Groups
Community lead therapy groups for both women and children that promote healing and empowerment. 
Planning
We provide support and resources for future planning such as child care, employment and housing.
Medical & Legal
One on one support with medical and legal referrals. Abriendo Puertas will help each victim individually with understanding and obtaining legal protection.
Advocacy
Abriendo Puertas has dedicated case workers that are committed to helping victims with their best interest in mind. We value helping victims in finding their voice and gaining independence.

Lideres

Abriendo Puertas Lideres is committed to promoting domestic violence awareness to the Latina community. This group of survivors participates in a variety of outreach events, presentations and workshops. Through these efforts, Lideres aims to increase domestic violence education and resources available to Latina women and children in Sussex county Delaware.

What is domestic violence?
Domestic Violence is a form of abuse with an intimate partner. Donestic violence involves a pattern of abusive behaviors to gain power and control over their partner. Domestic violence does not look the same for everyone and may or may not include physical violence. An abusive partner may use one or many forms of domestic violence to manipulate a relationship and gain power and control.
