Whatcoat Welcomes Catholic HEART Team

While most students are enjoying the beach, spending time with friends, or relaxing at home, a group of remarkable students are spending part of their summer volunteering for others.

The Catholic HEART Workcamp brings youth and college aged leaders together for a week each summer to serve the needs of others; children, the poor, elderly, disabled or to partner with social service agencies that may need assistance.   Thanks to Delaware's CHWC General Manager, Linda Darling and the Saint Thomas More Academy, over 200 youth and chaperones arrived in Delaware this week to do just that.

People's Place has been fortunate to partner with the group for the past several years and they have donated hundreds of hours helping us update, clean and maintain buildings at several of our programs.

This year the group arrived at our Whatcoat Social Services program on Thursday, June 27, 2019 and got right to work on a number of projects to help beautify the area.  The group of CHWC teens  powerwashed the Ruth Dorsey Emergency Homeless Shelter plus the 10 Vera's Haven transitional housing units, and Case Manager's office after cleaning all the rain gutters and clearing the yard of any debris.  The team, accompanied by their chaperone Marion, were also given a tour of the facilities and history of the program and the group then included those wanting to participate in their morning, lunch and wrap-up prayer sessions.

Groups and individuals like these extraordinary youth are the reason that People's Place is able to continue providing critical services to those in our community.   We cannot thank them enough for enthusiastically giving back to the community and showing their love for others by their service.
