People’s Place Annual Breakfast

The People's Place Annual Breakfast was held at the Milford Senior Center on Wednesday morning, May 18, 2022. Approximately 80 people attended the event which gives the People's Place Board, staff members, donors, elected officials, and business leaders the opportunity to gather in support of the organization. The event includes a presentation of the state of the agency, provides program updates, and recognizes the People's Place Volunteer of the Year and the Community Supporter of the Year.
This year our Volunteer of the Year is Christine Tomalin and Community Supporter of the Year is Mariner's Bether United Methodist Church in Ocean View, DE.
Stacey Lawson, Center for Community Justice Program Director nominated Christine who has been a Volunteer Mediator with CCJ since 3/25/2016. Her nomination form from Ms. Lawson states that "Christine brings many years of experience in Education, Administration and Court Mediation with her. She is very generous of her time in assisting with mediations, typically mediating 2 to 3 mediations per month. She has also traveled from her residence in Millsboro to Dover to help conduct mediations after regular business hours. Christine has mediated several HOA and community cases referred directly by our local police depts. She has also been a supporter in words and deeds for CCJ and the People’s Place agency within her local community by promoting mediation, connecting with and finding new volunteers for the mediation program, as well as, making a variety of personal donations to other People's Place programs. Christine has been an invaluable asset to CCJ and we count ourselves very lucky to have her with us".
Terrant Morrison, Program Director of Whatcoat Social Services nominated Mariner's Bethel United Methodist Church for the People's Place Community Supporter of the Year. Mr. Morrison's nomination explained that since September 2020, volunteers from Mariner’s UMC in Ocean View, Delaware, have been making weekly hour-long drives to People’s Place Administration office to drop off donations. He states that "during these past 19 months the church’s dedication and commitment to provide home cooked meals, clothing, and personal hygiene products for those less fortunate has been nothing less than amazing. Their generosity has fed hundreds of individuals and families who look forward to their delicious casseroles, soups, and desserts week after week. Their consistent efforts of generosity have inspired the residents at the Whatcoat Shelter to volunteer services and help by providing meals to other shelters and families in need".
We congratulation and thank our 2022 award winners, as well as all those that donate to our organization. Every contribution matters and we value the community that partners with us as we join together to "help people find their path to growth and independence".
