United Way Delaware Does More Campaign helps People’s Place New Start Program

posted Thursday, Oct 13, 2011

The United Way Delaware Does More Campaign selected New Start as one of the programs to receive and distribute additional emergency assistance funds.  In December 2008 New Start received and additional $5,500 in funds and in January 2009 received an additional $9,000.

The People’s Place New Start program under the direction of Crystal Allen-Horne, Program Director, offers case-management services to everyone that uses the emergency assistance funding, but most of their clients have declined.  Ms. Allen-Horne reported a large number of their calls are from people that have never used any kind of assistance program.  They are not the program’s usual clients.

Noelia Arroya-Loomis, United Way Delaware staff member and People’s Place Board of Directors member, noted that the Delaware Does More Campaign collected over 300 pounds of food and $250,000 for emergency assistance last year.
